Purpose
In order to help fans understand the intricacies of NASCAR, I meticulously researched each module, breaking down aspects of NASCAR in a novel way. All of the informational content was vetted by NASCAR experts to ensure it’s accuracy.
If you’ve ever wondered why they drive so close together, you can learn about the aerodynamics of drafting in your living room through your phone, in augmented reality.
official nascar app
Launched at the beginning of the 2025 season with 5 modules, AR Masterclass is available on the official NASCAR App.
The second launch was at the midway point of the season in two batches with 4 more explainers, and an AR Burnouts activity.

Burnouts activity
The final module released was a burnout activity that gave fans a chance to control a mini NASCAR Car to perform their best burnout.
process
From kickoff to final delivery, I was involved at every level of the project, from establishing the visual language for the experience to working with developers to ensure builds were keeping true to the vision.
User expereince Design
From figuring out and diagraming user flows to wire frames and interaction maps, I led the user experience development of
the app.

3D Style
direction
Every augmented reality object rendered in world space was meticulously researched and planned before any polygons were manipulated.

direction & Development

Examples of early work in Blender blocking out proportions for each scene and application in concept art for client reviews and 3D artist briefs.

Examples of storyboard sketches and diagrams mapping out the compostion of each scene.
Concept Art
I established the look of individual elements through various forms of visualization, from paint overs, diagrams, and act outs.

Mood boards

Example of an AI-generated driver painted over to establish the look of the driver's fire suit.
closing
Going into this project, I had limited knowledge of NASCAR beyond knowing that they drive in ovals (turns out not all the time) and Ricky Bobby. As I moved through the development of this app, I gained a much deeper appreciation for NASCAR and learned many interesting nuances about the sport. The process of discovery and opportunities to dive deep into new subjects helps me deliver a thoughtful product and is my favorite aspect of working in design.
